I’m a Canadian painter based in Ottawa, Ontario. Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, my practice moves between abstraction and the figure, exploring human presence within ordinary shared spaces.
My paintings begin with the figure, then move toward a broader relationship among the body, movement, the surrounding space, and the larger structure of the painting. I’m drawn to ordinary moments: people sitting, waiting, leaning, reclining or simply occupying a shared space. Through drawing, colour, shape and shifts in value, I move between recognition, emotion and abstraction. Figures emerge and recede; edges disappear; bodies, objects and surrounding spaces begin to merge.
I leave much of the narrative unresolved. A gesture or spatial relationship may suggest intimacy, solitude, conversation or simply presence. I’m interested in leaving those possibilities open, allowing the viewer to bring their own experience to the work.
